Weiden in der Oberpfalz was the first town we visited here in Germany. Some great friends of ours took us there to sightsee and enjoy a lovely German meal. The town is about 30 minutes away from Vilseck, a very nice drive actually and you get to see the beautiful Bavarian countryside on the way. Weiden is a very interesting – historical – romantic old town, perfect if you are looking for a nice nearby outing. Downtown is the Marktplatz (Market Square) which is more of a wide street connecting the former town gates than a square. It is lined by gabled buildings from the 16th to 18th centuries, absolutely beautiful! They have many nice stores and adorable little restaurants all around – and very stroller friendly! We had a blast there and every time we have the chance we go visit and shop. The kids get to run around and enjoy some ice cream!
We had dinner at Schinderhannes and the outside of the restaurant looks like a little castle! They seriously have the best food in town. We ordered a Jägerschnitzel and Kroketten – shown in the picture down bellow – which was absolutely amazing! Totally recommend this restaurant!!
